Leo Garre, Owner manager and builder
of the Phoenix & Holly Railroad is offering a "Hands On"
seminar / work camp which will teach you all aspects of building a successful
narrow gauge RR.
Mr. Garre will host you or your group
on site with all aspects of narrow gauge railroad building. You will
learn:
Railroad Layout
Road beds
Select and use ballast
Turnouts
Trestles
Locomotives
Rolling stock
Marketing and business
.and Much More
This "Hands On" learning
experience can launch you to actually build your own railroad. You can
build for private use, people movers, and community projects.
The Train Camp will take 1 to 2 weeks
of intensive seminars and workshops to successfully complete. Weekends
will be at your discretion. You can help operate the Phoenix & Holly
hauling passengers or other activities and attractions nearby. You will
be part of the work gang completing tasks on building a railroad and
components.
Seminars on railroad and component
building will be covered in the classroom. This is a "nuts and
bolts" approach to railroad building.
Mr. Garre has a 30 year background
in engineering, design, railroad construction, fabrication, locomotive
and rolling stock design. He will be your teacher and mentor on this
once in a lifetime experience.

Logistics
Local lodging is available near the Phoenix & Holly site.
Chuck Wagon style breakfast and lunch will be supplied by the on site
kitchen facilities.
Completion banquet and awards will be presented at the completion of
the course.
The Phoenix & Holly railroad
is located in the North Willamette Valley of Oregon, near the town of
Canby. This lush garden area is 24 miles south of Portland, Oregon on
the I-5 corridor. This area is a tourist Mecca with flowers, vegetables,
nurseries and much more.
Canby is 60 miles from the Pacific
Ocean and to the Northeast there is year round skiing and Winter activities.
The whole area is ripe with history of the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Explore the living history of Hudson Bay with the Indians and early
explorers fur trapping etc.
